The LIR program began its vocational training program at the National Institute for Technicians and Instructors in Dar Sa’ad.

On June 10, the LIR team, in cooperation with local performing troupe Siamo Banda and al–Amal Club, held the first public showing of their “Importance of Education” campaign.

ADRA hosted three sports tournaments including 32 teams for the occasion of World Refugee Day 2009. Tournaments included an adult football league (16 teams) a youth football and basketball leagues (16 teams of players aged 16 and under). Matches were played from June 5–20 and winning teams were honored at an Awards Ceremony and Cultural Celebration on June 21.

In cooperation with UNHCR and local NGO al–Tadhamon, ADRA held a handicrafts exhibit and sale from June 13th—June 20th at LuLu Hypermarket. All Products were hand–made by producers at ADRA’s craft makers workshop in Kharaz camp as well as the Takawal cooperative, which produces items in workshop space furnished by ADRA. The sale of the items produced directly benefit the women of the community and often serves as a sole source of income. Producers sold nearly $250 worth of merchandise.

ADRA is proud to have played an important part in commemorating of the 9th Annual World Refugee Day with Sporting and Cultural Events and a Handicrafts Exhibit and Sale. ADRA hosted events from June 5 - June 21, 2009.

The most important jobs for women especially girls in our village are collecting water, firewood and looking after sheep and goats. They consume around seven hours of their day performing these tasks apart from cleaning, washing and looking after to their younger brothers and sisters. Very few attend school due to different factors such as distance, no female teacher, financial incapacity, and education is seen to be less valuable.
