Sporting and Cultural Events

ADRA hosted three sports tournaments including 32 teams for the occasion of World Refugee Day 2009. Tournaments included an adult football league (16 teams) a youth football and basketball leagues (16 teams of players aged 16 and under). Matches were played from June 5–20 and winning teams were honored at an Awards Ceremony and Cultural Celebration on June 21.

This Awards Ceremony and Cultural Celebration represented the culmination of World Refugee Day events. In addition to honoring tournament the celebration featured special addresses from Basateen Grand Elders Council Leader Mohammed Dirie and music, dance and drama performances from the Blue Star group. The event was attended by the Mayor of the Dar Saad District, Dr. Fadhl Abdullah al–Ruba’e, who distributed awards honoring winning teams.
