1998—1999 Building al–Fash School in the Hais District
(Hais District in Hodeidah Governorate)

  • Donor: Royal Netherlands Embassy, Sana’a
  • Constructed a six–classroom primary school, leading to more effective education for the children of the Hais district

2002—2006 Yemen Basic Health and Education Program (BHE)
(10 districts in Sa’ada and al–Jawf Governorates)

  • Donor: USAID
  • Increased the capacity of the national health and education systems, met communities’ developmental needs in tribal, arid, and high–conflict regions; worked with the Ministry of Public Health and Population and the Ministry of Education to form health councils, train health workers, provide health education scholarships, and print training manuals for health and community education

1999 Control of Rift Valley Fever
(Hais, Khokha and Jabal Ras)

  • Donors: ADRA International, ADRA Denmark, ADRA Norway, ADRA Australia, ADRA Canada and ADRA Yemen
  • ADRA cooperated with the Ministry of Public Health and Population, the Ministry of Agriculture and other Health and Agriculture offices to provide sprayers to control mosquitoes, the transmitters of Rift Valley Fever.

2004 Fire accident assistance
(Sana’a)

  • Donor: ADRA Yemen
  • Purchased food and kitchen materials, distributing supplies directly after the outbreak of a massive fire in the Akhdam slum neighborhood; built toilets for community sanitation

2002—2003 Global Food for Education
(Ta’iz Governorate)

  • Donor: United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)
  • Increased the enrollment rate of girls in rural areas in basic education by exchanging food for attendance in school; supplied 4,500 tons of wheat and 500 tons of oil to participating families, and approximately 32,000 female students

1999 Hais City Water System
(Hais District, Hodeidah Governorate)

  • Donor: ADRA’s Middle East Office
  • Supplied clean water to Hais city, removing rusted pipes from the local water system and replacing them with rust–resistant materials to insure a positive impact on the community’s health

1998—1999 Upgrading Hais Health Center
(Hais District in Hodeidah Governorate)

  • Donor: Japanese Embassy, Sana’a
  • Supported a laboratory in Hais Hospital with medical materials and modern equipment, developeding the maternal and childhood wards at the Hais hospital and establishing a health information system

2005 Education Survey Ta’iz
(Ta’iz Governorate)

  • Donor: Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)
  • Carried out a field survey to expand a local community initiative to develop girls’ education in 56 target schools, identifying the educational priorities and needs by collecting the opinions and attitudes of stakeholders

The SUR project focuses on three main objectives: improving the livelihood skills of refugees, improving support mechanisms for refugee women and children, and facilitating social adjustment and increasing leadership within the refugee population. To date, the SUR project has served over 1000 direct beneficiaries through its programming.
